A Dream Come True
Three years ago, it seemed like a dream when Tonia Jenny, senior content editor for North Light Books, asked me if I would consider authoring a book. She had chosen to publish images of my artwork in a compilation book for North Light the year before. When I met Tonia in person in Petaluma, CA she told me that it was in fact her who had selected my work to be included in Incite 2: Color Passions.
And so started a long process of emails back and forth between us. We talked about social media reach and marketing strategies, she pitched the book concept we crafted together to her team. Ultimately we scored, and were given the green light on Painted Paper Art Workshop--back then the working title was Paper Paintings.
Last year I was lucky enough to travel to Ohio to have all the beautiful photos for the book shot in the F&W Publications photography studio. I got to meet and work directly with Christine, the photographer and Kristy, my editor. How lucky!
As the process goes, there was a lot of re-writing, editing, re-working of the text. Then we got to the images, looking at them and writing call-outs for all the step-by-step images we had shot. I had to write more text, for introductions and to explain things in more detail. Kristy was determined to make this the very best how-to book, and she did.
This week I have received 100 copies of this amazing 128 page soft cover, full color book. I am proud to be able to say that I am now an artist and an author.
I am stamping my hand with paint on the inside cover, and signing copies of the book. The colorful handprint is a lot of fun. My first resume out of college (SU G’90) had a reduced sized print of my very own hand at the top. I guess I figured my hand print was like my artist signature in a way. I’ve been printing my hand in my self published books purchased at my Paper Paintings Collage Workshop for years.
Thank you North Light For working with me to produce such a beautiful book. Thank you Tonia for believing in my writing and my art. Thank you Kristy for making my words even better. Thank you Christine for making me look good! Thank you Maureen for publishing me in the The Artists Magazine.
And Thank you all for your support and kind words over the years. I am humbled and honored. Truly.
