Emilie’s dance studio headed to Sandusky this week to the Sawmill Resort where Headliners National Dance Competition is taking place. She and I hit the road at the crack of dawn on Sunday and things haven’t slowed down since.
We zipped from Park-n-Fly to the airport in record time, checked our bags with Frontier Airlines and headed through security and on to gate 90. Emilie will be flying to New Jersey later this month by herself, this is a first. I gave her tips as we navigated the airport, but she already knew. They grow up when you’re not looking.
It is my hope that someday she will enjoy travel as much as I do, that she will experience new places and meet new people–enriching her life and hopefully the lives of others along the way. As a professional dancer (which is her goal) I imagine that this could be a very realistic scenario for her.
As Emilie contemplated the dance competition week ahead, I worked away at a watercolor on my seat-back tray table. I have a new Sakura portable watercolor field box and brush that allows me to work in the most confined of all spaces…. a coach class middle seat! Painting helps me to pass the time, I get caught up in the brushwork, the mark making, and the watercolor and before I know it, we are touching down.
The girls were super excited to travel by limo service from the airport to the hotel, about an hour drive. They plowed through the potato chips that CJ put out for them… eating and dancing machines. That’s my animated daughter with the peace sign going on, an entertainer on multiple levels.
After checking into the hotel, the girls were off to explore the grounds, including a private swim area at the edge of Lake Erie. The independence of this age is really nice, for them as well as their Dance Moms.
Stay tuned for more dance updates and art from the suitcase on the Facebook Studio Page and here on the blog. AND more photos and updates from Headliners.
We’ll be here all week.
