This is Living
After my week in the cottage on Keuka Lake and teaching in Penn Yan for the Art Center of Yates County, and after my cross lake swim, I wanted more of the stunning visuals the Finger Lakes region of Upstate NY had to offer. So, Watkins Glen State Park is just a half hour from Penn Yan, and the day was just lovely.
What a beautiful drive through the farms and Mennonite country. Rolling hills, lush green fields, tractors, barns, silos, and horse and buggies. The drive was almost as beautiful as the gorge.
Spectacular Natural Beauty
I think I must have exclaimed “thats amazingly beautiful” about a hundred times as we hiked to the top of the Gorge Trail and back down again. The temperature in the shade was significantly different that the temperature in the sun. The posted signs informed us that the plant life was too.
A Must See
If you find yourself in the Finger Lakes you absolutely must take in the natural beauty of Watkins Glen. It’s spectacular and amazing all at the same time. I just kept wondering about how the rock was carved so smooth by water and ice of the glaciers… so many years ago.
The park has plenty of parking and the rate to get in is under $10, its a real treat and the small town of Watkins Glen itself is very quaint with a wonderful main street for shopping, meandering, relaxing, and eating ice cream or having lunch at a sidewalk cafe in the summer sun.
Always and Adventure
How lucky am I to be able to criss cross the country with my paper tidbits, teaching, learning, living, and meeting wonderful people along the way?
