Here We Go Again
Sunday morning I was early to rise as I had to meet my car service to the Orlando airport at 4:00 am. This morning marks the beginning of three weeks on the road, working, shooting photos for a book I’ve written, and supporting my daughter the Dancing Machine.
I slept en route to MCO, which was a nice change to navigating the traffic, parking off airport, and taking a shuttle. My driver dropped me off right at the doorway to the very, very long Delta check-in line. Super convenient.
Upstate New York
My journey starts with a workshop for the Art Center of Yates County, a place I have taught for previously. Since I graduated from Syracuse University, and I am originally a New England Girl, returning to the cottage on the lake and the Art Center feels like a sort of homecoming.
The second time I taught here in Penn Yan, I competed in an Olympic distance triathlon in honor of Flick, a board member of the art center and fellow cyclist. It was Flick who coordinated renting a bike for me as my form of transportation (I was training for another race at the time) for my very first workshop with the Art Center.
Staying Fit on the Road
This year I am once again making the 9-mile commute to the Art Center from the cottage via road bike. The bike was waiting for me in the living room, thanks to the amazing folks at the Geneva, NY Bicycle Center. This trip the biking will keep me in cardio and I’m working on borrowing a kayak for some upper body workout on the lake before the end of week swim.
Swimming the Lake
This year the folks at the Art Center coordinated my class with Krossin’ Keuka, a swim to raise money for Keuka Comfort Care Home, the local Hospice House. You still have time to donate, sponsor me in this 3/4 mile swim, and help an amazing cause! Currently I am in the top five individual fundraisers. I am very proud to have been able to raise over $1,000 so far.
Stay tuned for more Stories from the Road as my Paper Paintings Collage Workshop starts tomorrow morning, I’ll be heading out on the bike and taking photos on the way!
