On The Road Again
It’s that time of year again, Paper Paintings workshop time at my favorite place, The Sedona Arts Center, in Sedona, AZ. I have been teaching in Sedona for the past five years, every six months. How lucky am I?
My flight from Orlando International Airport was at 5:15 am, not sure who booked that unGodly hour…. but it meant setting my alarm for 2:00 am, leaving the apartment by 3:00am, ouch.
Not sure why, but at 3:45 in them morning, there is not a lot open at the airport. Not even Clear! Their kiosks were covered up and zipped up. This does not make sense to me, because we were there to take a flight but couldn’t even get a Zaza Cuban coffee in the American Airlines terminal. Truth be told, I’d much rather have a Starbucks, and this situation often makes me consider choosing a different airline in any other terminal of the airport. But I digress.
Up, Up, and Away
One of the most amazing ways to experience the beauty of Sedona is quietly from above. In the wee hours of Thursday morning, Andrew and I boarded Red Rock Balloon Adventure’s shuttle to the launch spot. It was cold and dark, but exciting! We met some folks from New Jersey and California who had come to experience the beauty and peacefulness of Sedona.
The peacefulness of Sedona, this is really the feeling that is invoked for me in the balloon. When I look down from the basket, I appreciate every tree, rock, ridge, vista… and most importantly, my life.
How lucky am I to be able to do the work that I love, meet new people, enjoy new experiences, and visit new places. I experience peace and a sense of gratitude from that basket.
After the balloon ride, it was about relaxing and enjoying my favorite place. Visiting my artwork at the Lark Art Gallery that represents me here in Sedona, getting lunch at my favorite place, the Wildflower Bread Company, and enjoying the red rock vistas.
Tomorrow starts my class at the Arts Center. I have a small group this time around, I’m looking forward to it!
