The last day of our retreat had arrived, and it was bittersweet. Everyone had been looking forward to the day at the thermal bath, “taking the cure” as the Italians do. The warm pools of water at Centre Tremble Monteverde at the Fonteverde Tuscan Resort are a place where the water is believed to have special health-giving properties. Water from a mineral spring that contains various minerals, such as salts and sulfur compounds make up the warm water pools at the spa.
There are seven pools of different sizes: a large outdoor pool connected to a smaller indoor one, a state-of-the-art Bioquam circuit, a water gym pool, an exclusive pool for the use of hotel guests only and a pool reserved for the guests’ pets. The seventh is an intimate pool for balneotherapy where colors and aromas are used to create a soothing sound.
Have I said pinch me lately?
Cured or not, we were all very relaxed in the jet pools on the upper, more exclusive level, of the Fonteverde. Many of us took treatments of various massages before walking through the facility in our robes, to the pools. It was an amazing experience.
Relaxing is hard work, after three hours of thermal mineral water relaxation, we were ready for lunch! We reconviened in the café for a cappuccino before heading to our Mercedes vans for the ride to Ristorante Daniela in San Casino dei Bagni, still in Tuscany.
Gelateria – Spaghetteria – Edicola
Daniela met us outside and invited us in to her amazing restaurant and shop where she presented us all with a chilled glass of Prosecco. Everyone was happy to peruse her packaged spices and foods combined with fun clothing, accessories, and merchandise. Yolanda scored an amazing vintage leather purse with personality. I found a fun hat and several others found items to bring home for friends and family.
Soon we settled down for lunch and it was amazing, a sampling of many different flavors on little toasts, with battered veggies in the center. The aqua frizzante was flowing and as always, so was the wine. A toast was made by the group and we presented Pamela with a spa gift certificate from “The Improper in Italy Tour” for her amazing work on our trip. Even though we requested coffee with milk after lunch, butter and olive oil for our bread, to drink our entire wine tasting pour, and other improper requests, she smiled and laughed with us through it all.
We love you Pamela!
After lunch we were treated to Daniela’s home made gelato, a trio of pistachio, hazelnut, and rich decadent chocolate. What a wonderful finish to a fine meal and a relaxing morning. We were so full and sleepy, that the idea of going back to the classroom for critiques and clean up was the last thing on the students’ minds. But… I reminded the group that that I had a marketing talk with Q&A on the agenda. That helped.
We wrapped up our class with a constructive critique of everyone’s sunflower. I like to call it Show and Tell because only good things, ideas for improvement, and compliments are shared. You can see some of our classroom photos in the Smilebox video at the bottom.
Well, tomorrow the students go home and I go on to stay a few extra days off the grid, further out in the countryside. What an amazing experience we had! We will be doing it all over again in June, so you haven’t missed your opportunity.
